Merit Badge selection & Trail Blazers registration due Friday, April 22nd
Please email all Merit Badge requests to me no later than April 22th. This is a really important request to be sure that all scouts are signed up and confirmed for their desired Massawepie camp activities.

Attached is a list of Merit Badges offered this year, their specific pre-requisites and the camp schedule for Merit Badge classes.  Please read this carefully along with the Merit Badge Memo. Please follow the directions when it comes to selecting your Scout's choices for Merit Badges, considering both the time slots and reviewing the requirements (Rank, age and prerequisites).

For new Scouts:  Trail Blazers (described in the Special Programs Attachment) is a morning class for new scouts looking to complete rank advancement to 1st Class.  If you are taking the Trailblazers program in the mornings you have an opportunity in the afternoon to take 1 or 2 merit badge classes.  Swimming merit badge is typically popular with new scouts, but can be a challenging merit badge that may involve finishing some requirements at a later date.  Other classes to get new scouts familiar with the merit badge process and a bit easier are badges such as Woodcarving, Art, Basketry, or Space Exploration (model rockets).  Some of these do require the purchase of a kit at the Trading Post (~$6-$15).  Programs such as Nature are also popular.

Once again, please review all of this information carefully and send me your Merit Badge requests by April 22nd.

NOTE: All adults attending camp must be must be registered members of the BSA Troop 341 and have completed the Online Youth Protection Course which must be repeated every 2 years. Please be certain that your registration is up to date and that you have completed the YP requirement.

Special Programs Attachment:   COPE and Mountain Fox programs for older scouts are described.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Bark Eater is a program coordinated for all scouts attending by our Massawepie Scoutmaster Ron Kull.

Medical Forms: This is also a good time to schedule and complete annual physicals for Scouts and Leaders as you will need an up to date set of medical forms. Please direct any questions to our medical form coordinator Lisa Marin or to Ron Kull.

Pre-Camp Swim Test:  This will be arranged at one of the local high schools in May or June. We highly recommended that any scout wishing to do water activities take the pre-test as it allows for a much faster check-in process at Massawepie.  Dates for the test will be communicated once this is confirmed.

Thanks for reading this important Massawepie communication. Let me know if you have any questions.

Massawepie Coordinator
