Chateaugay Park

Description:1 or 2 night winter camping trip to Tug Hill Plateau.

We can expect 3-4 ft of snow on the ground in this region in February. The terrain includes 8 miles of marked light-use trails arranged in several loops through rolling hills and around 2 stre ams. There are several old stone walls to explore. The forest includes both hardwood and conifer trees. Campfires are permitted using dead local wood or pre-cut firewood if brought from within a 50-mile radius.

Start Date and TimeFriday departure may be possible for some participants--meet Friday, Feb 4 at 6:30pm and depart at 7:00pm

Note: Mr. Thiemel is planning to leave Friday evening. If another adult driver can leave Friday, then other scouts may be able to join (space limited to # of seats available).

Saturday departure for most participants: Meet Saturday, Feb 5 at 6:30am and depart at 7:00am.

End Date and Time:Sunday, February 6. Return no later than 3:00 pm (Super Bowl Sunday).

Sign Up DeadlineThe permission slip and a check made out to BSA Troop 341 must be turned in by January 17, 2011 to NT or Mr. Rudmann. 
Note the troop policy is to charge an addional $25 late fee after this date IF space is still available. Proper planning requires an early commitment by scouts to this date.

Trail map(s) of the event locationNote the google maps show Jackson Road as a Northern loop off of County Route 2. The DEC map shows the west part of the loop as Beecherville Road. Compare the two maps carefully and don't confuse the two parts of Jacksonville Rd.

7:00am - Depart Bushnells Basin

Both Crews: 
9:30am - Arrive Chateaugay State Forest, meet up with Friday night campers, eat snack 
10:00am-11:00am - Haul camping gear to campsite 
11:00am-12:00pm - Start shelters and latrine 
12:00-1:00pm - Lunch 
1:00-5:00pm - Complete shelters, latrine, and snow kitchen 
5:00-6:30pm - Cook and eat dinner, gather firewood, start fire 
6:30-8:00pm - Campfire and cracker barrel 
8:00-9:00pm - Final preparation to maintain warmth overnight 
9:00 Lights out 

7:00-8:00am - Breakfast 
8:00-8:30am - Scout's own and reflections 
9:00-11:00am - Light hike on trails to explore forest 
11:00-12:00pm - Lunch 
12:00-1:00pm - Pack up gear, haul gear back to vehicles
