Boy Scout Handbook

The Boy Scout Handbook is always the best reference for all rank advancement requirements. It contains not only the list of requirements that must be met for each rank, but also a detailed explanation of what the requirements are and mean.

The handbook does get updated on a regular basis. This means that the book each scout receives when he joins the troop may be slightly outdated by the time he is ready to advance to any given rank.

The rules are, that a scout must meet all of the CURRENT requirements at the time of promotion. That means if a new requirement has been added since the scouts original book was printed, he still needs to complete the new requirement.

Merit Badges

Merit badge requirements can be found at Meritbadge.org. However, your best source of information and resources to meet these requirements will always be the physical meritbadge books available at the local scout store.

To help track and document your progress towards any merit badge, these worksheets are a helpful tool.

The list of current Merit Badge Counselors within the troop can be obtained from our Advancement Chairperson (email Advancement Chair). Refer to the Seneca Waterways website members section for a full list of counselors available within the council.

An overview of the Merit Badge "blue card" and process can be found here .
